ALONE, BUT NOT ALONE

BY

Laura Lee Christian

Peaceful at last
a hot summer day
alone with my books
on the wide expanse of grass
the sun warms my head
and the words still my mind
the activities of the day
fade away
I feel great
in my comfortable clothes
my jeans and dirty sneakers
the time ticks away on my wrist
but the day has no demands
so I'll sit here and relax
alone with my books
on the summer grass
no pressures from friends, family, or foes
I escape into another realm
and now a light breeze plays with my hair
and God is near
I like being alone, but not alone.
